There's nothing like getting a jump on the competition, and that's just what 2011 Pan American Games individual gold medalists Jessica Phoenix & Pavarotti did on Day 1 of Dressage competition, moving into first place on Thursday at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, presented by Land Rover. At the end of cross-country on Saturday, the two-time Olympic rider from Canada and the 15-year-old Westphalian gelding (owned by Don Good) are currently in 17th place going into show jumping on Sunday.
Though she entered three horses at Rolex this year, Pavarotti holds special meaning for Phoenix, who knew him early in his career and watched him being produced since he was just five years old. "He's a horse that I've been in love with my entire life," she told NF Style.
