Welcome to a new series on Noelle Floyd Style called Instagram Spotlight, highlighting the best equestrian accounts that are sure to make you click the big, blue button, “Follow.”
Maggie McAlary first made an impression with her talent and riding ability with her pony, Toy Story. The American rider didn’t stop there, continuing to find success in the equitation and junior jumper divisions. Now, she’s developing her CSI5* career as a rider for Double H Farm.
But riding prowess aside, McAlary is as stylish as they come. And her Instagram profile is the perfect mix between horse sport, horse culture, and personal style. She recently competed HH Ciske van Overis in Friday’s $216,000 Rolex U.S. Open CSI3* Grand Prix at the Central Park Horse Show. Now that the competition has wrapped, we can all hope McAlary shares her favorite shopping stops in the city—which is all the more reason to keep tabs on her Instagram.
Name: Maggie McAlary
Hometown: I was born and grew up in Amherst, New Hampshire. Now I split my time between Ridgefield, Connecticut and Wellington, Florida.
Current Location: NYC for the Central Park Horse Show
Discipline and level of riding: I jumped my first 5* Grand Prix last summer and my first 5* Nations Cup at the Spruce Meadows Masters a few weeks ago. I’m still trying to find my way in the bigger classes, but I am so lucky to be a part of the Double H Farm team—they have given me so many great opportunities. I 100 percent would not be where I am without them. Horse wise and training wise, they have given me every chance to succeed.
Approach to ‘gramming: I take my riding very seriously, but I also am aware that I’m lucky to get to do what I love as a profession. So I would say my approach is a mix of business and pleasure. Some people might think I have one too many photos of HH Ciske van Overis but I have no problem admitting I’m obsessed with her #cissytime.
IG Live or Snapchat: Currently Snapchat but I’m playing around with IG Live.
Favorite riding clothing brands: I’m obsessed with my GPA First Lady. It’s customized in the Double H colors and logo, and they really did a fantastic job with it. And I take my The Row backpack to every show with me—it’s the perfect size for my helmet and my show ring essentials while simultaneously being chic.
Favorite streetwear brands: Rag & Bone, Iro, Chloe, and Krewe
Words of advice for a good IG account: Don’t overthink it. If you like something, that’s good enough.
